About Us

Thirty-five Main Street has a reputation in Poughkeepsie, and Mahoney's Irish Pub & Steakhouse earned every bit of it. Over 1,500 reviews and a 4.2-star rating don't happen by accident. They happen because the Shepherd's Pie here is the kind that stops people mid-sentence, because the onion rings come out golden and crackling, and because the servers, people like Eli, treat every table like a regular even on a first visit.

The menu runs deeper than you'd expect from a pub. Sure, there's a proper pint and a burger that holds its own, but there's also a steakhouse side that means a group can split between comfort food and something more substantial without anyone compromising. Families come for the food, friends come for the atmosphere, and night-owls come because almost nowhere else in the Hudson Valley is still pouring and plating past midnight.

Main Street is the right address for a place like this. It sits at the center of things, close enough to catch a crowd after a show or a game, late enough to be the last good option standing. Walk in hungry or just thirsty, and Mahoney's will figure out the rest.

What We Offer

The kitchen at Mahoney's runs from 11 AM straight through to the early morning hours, seven days a week, which means the mac and cheese that warmed up a pair of road-weary travelers on a Tuesday night is just as available on a Sunday afternoon for a family looking for something satisfying after a long week.

On the food side, expect classic Irish pub fare anchored by that legendary Shepherd's Pie, alongside steakhouse cuts, burgers, and shareable appetizers built for a table of friends. The bar program covers the full range: draft beers, cocktails, whiskeys, and everything in between to match whatever mood walks through the door.

Private gatherings, birthday parties, and group dinners all find a home here. The space has the kind of lived-in warmth that makes a celebration feel genuine rather than staged. Whether the plan is a quick bite at the bar or a long table dinner, Mahoney's has the kitchen and the staff to pull it off.

"A great atmosphere together with friends or family. Pretty thorough menu for an Irish pub. But, they have the best Shepherd's Pie I've ever had in my life. 11/10 and same for the onion rings. Great service and friendly staff. And it's right next door to the Metro-North station if you're taking the train"

"Me and my friend were coming from a long trip and this pub was a great rest spot. We were greeted so warmly and treated so kindly by our server Eli, shoutout Eli! Mac and Cheese and Cheesecake were honestly best I had in a long time. Mahoney’s is great, definitely check out!!!"

"I love, love, love this place—or at least I used to. Mahony’s was one of my go-to spots. I’m here almost daily, I bring family and friends, and I spend money without hesitation because I believed in the experience… until it completely fell apart. Over several recent visits, the service has been flat-out unacceptable. The staff was passing out a special dish to the entire establishment—moving table to table, offering it randomly. Not once, not twice, but three times, the same server (the Black guy with braids) walked directly past us like we didn’t exist. No eye contact. No acknowledgment. Nothing. I don’t know if it was personal, bias, or just pure carelessness—but it felt targeted, and it was embarrassing. When you’re a regular who consistently supports a business, being treated as invisible is infuriating. It makes you question whether loyalty means anything at all here. And let’s be clear: the bartenders are a major part of the problem. The bar service has gone downhill to the point where it’s dragging the entire place with it. Attitude, lack of awareness, zero hospitality—it’s all there. They need to be replaced, because if nothing changes behind that bar, this place will continue to suffer and only get worse. Period. No guest should ever be made to feel ignored—especially not someone who’s been here as often as I have. Between today and multiple visits over the past week, it’s been a complete bust. Yes, the atmosphere used to be great, but atmosphere doesn’t excuse consistently shitty service. At this point, I wouldn’t make the trip unless you’re looking for a cheap drink paired with frustration. There are better options nearby. Shadows on the Hudson isn’t far, Derby delivers a stronger overall experience, and Shatzys may be pricier and smaller—but at least you leave feeling respected, welcomed, and genuinely taken care of. This place had something special. Right now, it’s wasting it. Fix the bar staff—or watch it continue to decline."
